Mosquito Ground Spraying Begins In Grand Prairie
GRAND PRAIRIE (CBSDFW.COM) -- After reporting its first West Nile positive mosquito from a trap, the city of Grand Prairie began ground spraying on Thursday night.
The area of spraying is bound by Gramley Street on the north, South Belt Line Road on the east, Marshall Drive on the south, and SW 3rd Street on the west (map). Crews will be spraying again on Friday night beginning at 10 p.m.
Residents in the area are advised to stay indoors, keep pets inside, and cover fish ponds during these times.
An official with the city of Dallas confirmed that a mosquito trap tested positive in west Oak Cliff near Mount Rainier Road. Officials expect to begin spraying in that area soon.
City officials are asking residents to eliminate areas that mosquitoes typically breed in by emptying, removing or covering any containers that can hold water. Residents are also advised to apply insect repellents containing DEET, particularly at dawn and dusk.
The City of Grand Prairie conducts regular tests on mosquito samples throughout the city as part of its West Nile Virus surveillance program.
