Mosque In McKinney Vandalized

MCKINNEY (CBSDFW.COM) - A place of calm, quiet respite for Muslims was vandalized Saturday night when the exterior of the McKinney Islamic Association Mosque was splattered with paint balls.

Vandals also shot at one of the members of the mosque with a paintball gun.

Unfortunately an increasing tide of 'Islamaphobia' is being manifested into actions now, according to a spokesman for the Counsel on American Islamic Relations, Balil Khaleeq.

Surveillance cameras weren't working because of a power outage last week. Thus, there isn't any footage of the people who have disrupted a place where many come for prayer and a sense of peace.

"This country was based on religious freedom and tolerance. The way that things have been the last five... ten years... it's really disturbing to us and our families," said Shahrukh Kureishy, a member of the McKinney Islamic Association Mosque.

Police in McKinney and the FBI are investigating the incident as a possible hate crime.
