More West Nile-Related Deaths Reported
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Two more deaths from the West Nile virus were confirmed Monday.
In Dallas County, its tenth reported death was a 90 year-old person who lived in the 75229 zip code in Dallas which includes the Preston Hollow area.
Tarrant County Public Health says a man in his 80s with underlying medical conditions was its second confirmed West Nile-related death.
Dallas County officials announced plans to start aerial spraying beginning as early as Thursday. County leaders say the aerial insecticide is the same used in ground spraying and just as safe. Individual cities have until Wednesday to decide if they want to participate. Dallas, Highland Park and University Park have all agreed to aerial spraying.
Some cities in Tarrant County have resisted spraying to control West Nile spreading mosquitoes while others have small, focused spraying programs. Euless, however, sprays the entire city and covers it over a period of four days.
So far this year, 190 cases of West Nile have been reported in Dallas County and 159 cases in Tarrant County. Across North Texas, thirteen people have died during this latest outbreak of the virus.
