More Traffic Changes At The Grapevine DFW Connector
GRAPEVINE (CBSDFW.COM) - Work is nearly halfway complete on the big DFW Connector Project, on Highway 121 and 114 in Grapevine.
"The DFW Connector Project right now is at its peak in terms of progress and actually will be about 50-percent complete by November of 2011," explained Kristen Schropp, a spokesperson for NorthGate Constructors, the connector projects' lead contractor.
Frustrated drivers will have to endure the twists and turns of the project for a few more years. "The DFW Connector Project is gonna be completed by 2014, but obviously we were shooting for earlier and the earlier the better," said Schropp.
The latest change in the area will happen this weekend and drivers will need to be on the lookout. "We're switching traffic; that means we're moving traffic to a different configuration that it is now."
The lanes of northbound Highway 121/International Parkway, coming out of Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, will be moved. The change will happen between 8 p.m. Friday and 6 a.m. Monday.
Anyone headed to DFW Airport will want to factor in extra travel time. "We also have a bridge demolition that's scheduled for this weekend," said Schropp. "We're closing a couple of the main arteries into DFW Airport. Southbound International Parkway will be closed and the westbound off-ramp to southbound International Parkway, or DFW Airport, will be closed.
Schropp admits that maneuvering through the DFW Connector can be "tricky" if you're not prepared -- so she had some suggestions.
"Check out all of our tools, go to our website, use the signage, make sure you're paying attention, and most of all try not to be talking on your cell phone or texting."
