More Than 100 Firefighters Help Contain Denton County Grass Fire
DENTON COUNTY (CBSDFW.COM) - More than a hundred firefighters from thirteen departments helped contain a 75-acre brush fire Sunday on the west side of Lake Lewisville.
As of 9 p.m. Sunday, the fire was 95 percent contained.
Denton County Fire Chief Jody Gonzalez said firefighters have dug a 5-foot-wide fire line around the burning area.
In a testament to the severity of the drought, the fire started at the bottom of a dried-out creek and made its way to the bottom of Lake Lewisville just west of FM 2499 bridge.

Wake buoys that once floated on top of the water at Lake Lewisville were burned to a crisp.
That caused FM 2499 between Orchid Hill Lane and FM 2181 to closed earlier in the day, according to Highland Village police.
No homes were evacuated, although teams were at the ready to take a defensive approach if flames come too close a nearby neighborhood.
Neighbors in the area said smoke filled the air Sunday afternoon.
