DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - While the first FEMA Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) for Dallas County opened in Garland Friday, homeowners, renters and business owners will soon have access to eight additional DRCs spread across Dallas County.
These DRCs are opening as a result of the June 17 addition of Dallas County to President Obama's disaster declaration for Texas regarding Individual Assistance due to severe storms and flooding in the month of May.
Applicants will be able to get information on grants for temporary housing, rental assistance and home repairs along with information on unemployment and legal services. Additionally, residents and businesses will have the opportunity to learn about low-interest loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration. Individuals with flood insurance who sustained damages are still encouraged to contact FEMA as underinsured applicants may be eligible for assistance as well. Dallas County residents are welcome to visit any of the locations during the dates and times listed. They are not restricted to just the location within their city. Residents are encouraged to apply for FEMA assistance online before visiting a DRC or call 800-621-3362 toll free from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. until further notice. Multilingual operators are available.
"The nine disaster recovery centers in Dallas County are here to help residents recover..." said Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins. "Our residents faced the severe weather with grit and determination and I'm glad we could all work together to make these disaster recovery services available to them."
