Mom Trying To Save Christmas By Finding Person Who Caused Wreck
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - This won't be an easy Christmas for a Dallas mother. She was involved in a horrific accident along the LBJ in Garland last week.
Swerving to avoid an object that had fallen onto the highway, she ended up in a terrible wreck. She survived but is hoping for a Christmas miracle - information about the person who caused the accident.
It happened December 12 at 10 in the morning. Karen Bright was on her way to an appointment when she ran into the unexpected. "I could've been killed in this," Bright said.
It was the kind of accident that makes you wonder how anyone survived. "Definitely a God thing," she said.
Traveling 70-miles-an-hour in a 1999 Mercury Grand Marquis, Karen Bright swerved to avoid hitting a refrigerator box that had fallen onto 635 near the Centerville Road exit.
She took pictures on her cell phone, showing every angle of the wrecked vehicle.
"That was the first hit. The force pushed me into the concrete wall," she said.
Then, she said, she bounced off the concrete wall into the path an 18-wheeler.
"To do 360's and miss another car going 70 miles an hour? By the end of it, I just had my hands up in front of my face just waiting to see what was going to come next," Bright said.
The week before, her house flooded from the second floor.
Now, you could see the wooden frame where the ceiling tile had been. The rug in the dining room had to be thrown out. All that was left was the bare concrete floor.
"You know what? That's alright. That's a floor. I have really been humbled by the accident," she said.
She's thankful she's still here for her children.
"I know people always say, 'Oh, screamed out to the Lord. The only thought in my head was, 'What will my children do?'" she said.
She has no health insurance but wasn't seriously hurt. But the car, covered only by liability, was totaled.
Christmas will be far from fancy but in one way the best ever.
"I told the kids, 'Mom's alive and that's a huge thing," she said.
If Karen Bright can find the person responsible for the accident, she may be able to recover the costs for her medical exam and the loss of her car.
