Richardson PD releases new details in the case of Andrew Li, UT Dallas student found dead
RICHARDSON - A University of Texas at Dallas sophomore who was missing for a week was confirmed dead by school officials over the weekend.
Twenty-year-old Andrew Li from Houston was last seen leaving his dorm on the evening of Feb. 24.
His body was found on Saturday under DART tracks off Routh Creek Parkway near Renner Road, Richardson police said in a news release Monday morning.
"We all grieve with Andrew's family and friends at this sorrowful outcome," wrote Vice President for Student Affairs Dr. Gene Fitch in a letter to the university community on Saturday. "We offer our sincere condolences to all who knew him."
Li's mother said her son left his cell phone, backpack and laptop in his room and just disappeared. She said she last spoke with him on the phone Thursday and got worried when a friend of his on campus couldn't locate him.
UT Dallas police listed Li as missing on Wednesday, two days after he was last seen, but said there was no indication of any foul play and no threat to the campus community.
Richardson PD detectives and the Collin County Medical Examiner's office are handling the investigation, according to Richardson police. They are waiting for toxicology results before listing a cause of death, according to the release.
Li will be honored at the Comets Remember ceremony on March 19, an annual event that honors all UT Dallas students who have passed away in this academic year.
