Missing North Richland Hills Teen Found In Mexico
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS (CBSDFW.COM) - Police began searching for 14-year-old Ruby Contreras after she didn't come home from North Oaks Middle School last week.
On Wednesday a surveillance photo of the missing teen and the man she is traveling with, suspected child molester Stephan Cox was released showing the two at a convenience store in Abilene. Investigators thought the city was just a pit stop for the duo as they continued to El Paso.
Today North Richland Hills police announced the two were found in Mexico. They said that Contreras is safe and that Cox is being held by Mexican authorities. Police also say they are working to take them into U.S. custody.
Cox fled from Ohio where he was facing a charge of improper contact with another 14-year-old after luring a Pennsylvania girl to take her family's SUV and drive to Ohio to meet him. Ohio police caught the two during a routine traffic stop.
While awaiting his trial, Cox was placed on house arrest and given an ankle monitor. The 26-year-old was allowed to leave his home for a job interview, however, Cox instead cut off his ankle monitor and headed to Texas, according to Ohio investigators.
"It's very highly likely that he could be involved in some form of human trafficking, and that's the biggest concern for this 14-year-old girl, that he may take her across the border into Mexico," said Detective Ronald Grocki.
This is a developing story...
