Missing Irving Teenager Now Home Safe With Family

IRVING (CBSDFW.com) - A 13-year-old Irving girl is back home with her family after disappearing more than a week ago.  She is safe, but bruised and shaken up.

The girl was missing for more than a week. Police say she voluntarily left a Lamar Middle School basketball game with two men and then was held against her will.

The teen spent most of the day Tuesday at the Irving Police Department, giving a detailed account of what happened.

CBS 11 News spoke with her older sister who said the family is glad her sister is home and is very thankful to the media for getting the information about her to the public.

The 13-year-old girl disappeared last Monday night. She was at a basketball game, when police say she left willingly with Todge Thurman and Corona Humberto, both 20.

The two men were arrested and charged with unlawful restraint.

According to the arrest warrant affidavits, the men took the girl to an apartment complex and did not answer the door when police came looking for her.

In an interview from jail, Corona expressed remorse, saying he was sorry for his actions.

"If I could take it back, I would," he said. "But I can't."

Corona said the three visited a vacant apartment and "chilled." He didn't go into further details, but said they left for Corona's mother's house 45 minutes after getting to the vacant apartment.

"Then everyone went to sleep," Corona said. "After that, we let her go."

He said they didn't know where the 13-year-old went after that, but that she was free to leave at any time. His mother, however, contradicts his story, saying she did not see the girl at her home.

After being asked if she was there, Corona's mother said, "not that I know of."

The missing girl returned home early Tuesday morning. Police are looking at the possibility of pressing more charges in the case and would not further elaborate on the unlawful restraint charges filed against the two men.

"This could have easily turned out to be something different, we had a 13-year-old girl, a child, missing, initially we thought runaway, and then we're not hearing anything," explained John Argumaniz with the Irving Police Department.
