Missing Collin County 8-Year-Old Found Safe

COLLIN COUNTY (CBSDFW.COM) - After a frantic search, a missing Collin County girl turns up, not far from her home.

Around 8:00 Friday morning police in Josephine received a call reporting an 8-year-old girl missing.

"She wasn't in her bedroom. She wasn't with mom, in her bed. They didn't see her in the room or in the house so they immediately called 911," said Daniel Jacobs, chief of the Josephine Police Department.

Fearing the girl may have been kidnapped police immediately began an intense search of the neighborhood. They also cordoned off the area around the girl's home, just to be safe.

"We couldn't find her. We didn't know whether to search the house -- so we treated it as a [potential] crime scene," said Chief Jacobs. "We had search parties out looking for her."

The girl was located around lunchtime and she hadn't gone far.

"We found her at a residence, one of her friend's houses, down here about a couple houses down from her home," Chief Jacobs said. "Parents of the residence she was at were actually out here helping look for her, driving around the neighborhood. They went back to the house and saw her walk out in the living room."

The child was not harmed.

Police now classify the incident as a runaway case. No charges are expected to be filed.

Josephine is about 25 miles east of Plano.
