ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) — After several months, and more than a thousand miles apart an Arlington family physically separated by an unexpected premature birth is finally back home.
Wyatt Lynn Russell was born at 24 weeks when the family was on vacation to visit relatives in a Williston, ND.
"I'm excited. Nervous, but I am glad to be able to be a mom to him and a wife and mom to the rest of my family," said Russell's mother, Crystal.
Mother and son had an extended stay at a neonatal intensive care unit in Bismarck, ND after baby Wyatt was born. In February they were transferred via air ambulance to Cook Children's Hospital in Fort Worth.
They were cleared to go home on Sunday.
"It's awesome, I'm so happy. A lot less stress," said Wyatt's father, Chris about finally having everyone home.
Wyatt weighs 9 pounds and is eating regularly but still needs the help of oxygen machines to breath but, according to his parents his prognosis is great compared to when he was first born. "...to be born at 24 weeks and 1 day... it was quite phenomenal what he was able to do," said Chris.
The family is thankful for all the help and support they received during the past few months. But now, they need to pay off some of their monumental medical expenses and have set up a fund raising page where people can donate to help them.
Now that the family is together, Mrs. Russell said she is just looking forward to the future. "I want to be able to take my son to football games to watch his brothers. We'll get there."
