Minor League Journeyman Gets First Hit After 13 Seasons
ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) -- Guilder Rodriguez played in 1,095 games over 13 seasons in the minors before his first call up to the major leagues. It took him seven at bats to get his first hit.
In his sixth appearance with the Rangers, Rodriguez singled to left field in the bottom of the third inning on Monday night against Houston.
Recognizing the occasion, fans and players applauded the journeyman as he stood proudly at first base. His father, who is from Venezuela, was in attendance to witness the historic moment.
"I'm very excited to see my dad in the stands," said Rodriguez after the game, moments after teammate Elvis Andrus dumped a bucket of Powerade on his head. "For my first RBI, my first big league base hit. I'm very excited with that."
Rodriguez finished the game 2-for-3 and singled in the game-winning RBI, helping the Rangers win for the 9th time in 10 games.
"This is one of the best moments in my life," said Rodriguez. "This is the second-best moment next to my two daughters being born."
