Miles Wants Bonus Payments For DISD Staff

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - The Dallas Independent School District wants teachers to know that they are appreciated. New superintendent Mike Miles said that DISD teachers were asked to do a lot last year -- from increasing the number of minutes in the classroom to increasing the number of days that they were teaching. But a pay increase was not part of the deal.

Miles wants that to change.

The new superintendent wants to give teachers a one-time incentive payment of $750. Support staff and administrators would receive a payment of $500. Other staff members, excluding high-level executives, would receive varying amounts.

The school board will consider the proposed incentive payments in September. If they are approved, the one-time payments would go out as part of the district's October 15 paychecks.

The one-time payments would cost the district between $10 million and $12 million.
