Michelle Obama Shares Life On Pinterest

NEW YORK (CBS NEWS) - As Father's Day approaches, First Lady Michelle Obama has joined the social media website Pinterest with pictures remembering her father, Fraser Robinson, and highlighting President Obama with his children.

The Obamas -- both in their campaigns and in the White House -- have sought to maximize the power of social media by reaching out to millions of followers on Twitter and Facebook to disseminate their message. Pinterest appears to be no exception. In the first nine hours of the account, the first lady has nearly 7,000 people following her page. That number nearly surpasses Ann Romney, wife of the presumptive Republican nominee, who has 7,500 pin followers. Romney joined Pinterest in February.

The first lady's boards include "Around the White House," which has pictures of some of her priorities as first lady -- the White House garden and exercise. Both are instrumental to her "Let's Move" campaign. The "Great memories" board includes a recent family portrait and a picture from the couple's 1992 wedding and inauguration night. The "Father's Day" board shows a picture of her father and candid photos of President Obama with his girls, Sasha and Malia.
