Michael Young Withdraws From Rangers Managerial Search
ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) -- Michael Young will not be the next manager of the Texas Rangers.
According to Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News, Young and Texas GM Jon Daniels discussed the position on Tuesday. The 7-time All Star decided against pursuing the position.
"I'm honored to be considered for the position of Rangers' manager," Young said. "I appreciate everything the Rangers organization has meant and done for me, my career, and my family. Having said that, I recognize the immense time commitment a manger's position requires, and at this point in my life, it's not the right fit. I retired to spend more time with my family and I'm enjoying this chapter in my life."
Tim Bogar has served as the Rangers interim manager since Ron Washington resigned on Sept. 5. The team is 11-6 under Bogar and has won 10 of its last 11 games.
Washington held a press conference last week, apologizing to his wife of 42 years for not being faithful.
Young played 13 of his 14 major league seasons in Texas. After playing for the Phillies and Dodgers in 2013, he signed a one-day contract to retire as a Ranger Jan. 31. He is the franchise's career leader in hits and runs.
Young has expressed a desire to return to baseball in some capacity at some point.
