Mexico: Gang Leader Says US Consulate Infiltrated
A U.S. investigation into the killing of a consulate worker in northern Mexico has found no evidence that she was involved in illegal activity.
Mexican federal police say a top drug gang enforcer told them he ordered the March killing of U.S. consulate worker Lesley Enriquez because she helped provide visas to a rival gang in the border city of Ciudad Juarez.
A U.S. federal official who is familiar with the investigation but is not authorized to speak about the case says U.S. officials investigated possible corruption involving Enriquez beginning shortly after her shooting death. No corruption was found.
The official said Friday that the motive behind the killing remains unclear.
