More West Victims Identified, Memorial Service Planned

WEST (CBSDFW.COM/AP) — The firefighters and first responders who died in the plant explosion in West will be remembered this week.

Officials on Sunday announced a memorial service to be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Ferrell Center, on the campus of Baylor University in Waco.

At least 14 people died in Wednesday's explosion at West Fertilizer Co., with 200 more people injured. West Mayor Tommy Muska has said that 10 of the 14 who died were first responders.

This tally includes Kenneth "Luckey" Harris, a 31-year-veteran of the Dallas Fire Department who was off-duty but responded to help. A funeral service has been scheduled for Wednesday for Harris in West.

On Sunday authorities also identified four more of the first responders who died: brothers Doug and Robert Snokhous, who were both firefighters with the West Volunteer Fire Department; Jerry Chapman, a firefighter with the Abbott Volunteer Fire Department; and Kevin Sanders, who worked with West EMS and another area volunteer fire department

The state fire marshal's office said Sunday that all fires have been extinguished at the explosion scene and the remaining fertilizer tanks are not a danger. Authorities don't know how the fire started yet, but do not suspect criminal activity is involved.
