WEST OAK CLIFF (CBSDFW.COM) — When the Iglesia de Cristo caught fire, you could feel the community members' hearts breaking with every brick that fell. On Sunday, you could hear the sounds of them mending right next door.

The members were rebuilding themselves through a service, with the rubble of their church just feet away.

"Thanks to God we have another building," Pastor Miguel Puga said. "It's different, but today... Everybody's together, you know?"

Puga said they still don't know what started the fire that took the historic West Oak Cliff church, but he said — listening to the music the members were singing — he thinks it was God.

He said the tragedy has united the community like he's never seen before.

"I think it's from God because, a lot of people from the community — black people and white people — are coming and giving donations and giving a hand," Puga said.

Some hand were clapping, others were raised to the heavens for prayers they need answered. With one symbol of the community in shambles, and another as strong as ever.

Puga said they will save as many of the bricks as they can and use them to build new walls for the sanctuary.
