McKinney To Honor Officer Who Saved Children At Crosswalk

MCKINNEY (CBSDFW.COM) – McKinney Police Officer Maureen Messner loves her job as a school resource officer at Evans Middle School.
The students depend on her for their safety. It's a job recently put to the test during the early morning drop off routine when a driver lost consciousness behind the wheel of the car. The driver barreled toward a group of children crossing the street; headed into school.
That's when officer Messner jumped into action.
Showing us where it all happened she said "I got the door open about here. Dove in for the brake pad and turned the wheel that way and she stopped just shy of that sign right there."
Somehow she managed to get inside the car and manually push the brake pedal to stop the car.
As she recounted her actions she said "I just happened to be right place right time."
Messner may downplay her efforts but the hugs and greeting she received and exchanged with students prove just how much she loves the students she protects.
For her efforts officer Messner will be honored at Tuesday night's McKinney City Council meeting.
