MCKINNEY (CBSDFW.COM) - A mother and her two daughters are still in the hospital after a dog attack Thursday night in McKinney. The family was at their home in the 3000 block of Kingsbury Drive when a pit bull began to attack.

The animal was still attacking the mother when police officers arrived at the scene. That is when one of the officers shot and killed the dog, in order to protect the woman.

The family was petsitting the dog at the time. Another dog at the home was taken by Animal Control personnel.

Neighbors said that they heard screaming, and rushed outside to find a young girl bleeding in the home's front yard. In just a few seconds, paramedics were at the scene, carrying the mother and another daughter away from the house. The two young girls were shaking.

"They were all so just completely in shock and terrified," said neighbor Catherine Williams. "There was quite a bit of blood. My daughter didn't sleep last night. Everyone was really shaken in the neighborhood and really worried about them and praying for them."

The family was taken to Medical Center of McKinney for treatment. The mother and one daughter were both injured by the pit bull. The second daughter was hurt trying to escape from the home. Neighbors said that they are all expected to be okay. The names of the victims have not been released.
