The Police Chief who replaced Kevin Coffey last year is now leaving.

Police Chief Marlin R. Suell has resigned, effective March 2, 2016, from the City of Maypearl. He cited personal reasons that will allow him to return to the area where his family resides as the reason, according to a news release from the Maypearl Mayor's office.

Suell took over after Kevin Coffey was let go and later indicted on child sex charges.

During his brief tenure as Police Chief in Maypearl, Suell implemented the adoption of a new police department policy manual, developed a new Senior Citizens Safety Check program, upgraded patrol vehicle communication systems, appointed a new patrol sergeant, and hired a reserve officer, according to Mayor Adele Mooney.

"The City of Maypearl is disappointed that Chief Suell is resigning, but acknowledges that his personal reason for the move is valid. We wish him well and thank him for his excellent service in making numerous improvements to our Department since November," Mayor Mooney said in a news release.

A search will begin immediately for a new Police Chief.
