Mavericks Attempt To Grow A Winning Streak
DALLAS (105.3 THE FAN) - The Dallas Mavericks are trying to grow a winning streak. So they're trying to grow their beards.
"We said we're not going to shave until we're back to .500," said team leader Dirk Nowitzki. "So it's been rough. There's been some itching going on. And since we're still down seven games below .500, that's a long way to go."
Nowitzki let the media know about the team's hairy situation after Wednesday's 105-99 home victory over the Blazers - as 21-28 Dallas tries to evaculate itself from another hairy situation: being closer to last place in the West than to the eighth and final playoff spot in the conference.
As the Mavs embark on a portion of the schedule during which seven of their eight games are at home, Dirk, O.J. Mayo, Dahntay Jones and Vince Carter are among the Mavs participating in the hirsute exercise.
Which doesn't mean their sweethearts are necessarily happy participants. Dirk was asked if wife Jessica is excited about the bonding effort.
"Not really," Nowitzki said.
