Marshall Faulk Questions Romo-Linehan Fit

DALLAS (105.3 THE FAN) -- Hall of Fame running back Marshall Faulk expected a competitive game on Sunday with the 49ers visiting Dallas. Instead, he got a dud.

Faulk joined Shan & RJ on 105.3 The Fan to provide his analysis of Sunday's 28-17 Cowboys loss.

"Watching San Francisco's offense kind of struggle during the preseason, you thought maybe there's a chance that if the Cowboys come out and put some points up early, we could have a good game."

Instead, Dallas found itself down 21-3 in the first quarter with San Francisco's offense having run just four total plays.

Tony Romo was less than stellar, throwing interceptions on three consecutive possessions in the first half. So how much of Romo's performance does Faulk attribute to rust?

"Zero. Out of the huddle, the snap, reading things out, making decisions -- that part of the game was great. It was the improvising stuff -- that part of the game caught him."

Faulk accepts Romo's first pick by Ed Reid, saying that type of play "happens". But the other two -- inexcusable.

"You just can't have those. I know Tony. He would love to have those back."

Faulk believes that playcaller Scott Linehan could be part of the problem. He points to Matthew Stafford under Linehan over the past few seasons versus Matthew Stafford now.

Stafford threw 29 touchdowns and 19 interceptions last season. On Sunday, he completed 22 of 32 passes with no interceptions and a passer rating of 125.3.

"It's that risk-reward football that Linehan [plays] -- he'll take chances."

"I want to give Tony a chance in this system with Linehan just to see how things are going to go. I don't want to write him off yet."
