Mark Cuban Thinking About Buying Rangers
Out of left field, Mavericks owner Mark Cuban confirmed Friday that he's thinking of buying the bankrupt - but winning - Texas Rangers on his own or by joining Hall-of-Famer Nolan Ryan's group as a major investor.
"The economics have changed, which has gotten me interested," Cuban told the Star-Telegram by e-mail after breaking the news on "The Ticket," a local sports talk station.
"My lawyers are still going through everything, but the bigger point is that I now have an interest," he said. "As I learn more I will have a better understanding about how aggressively I will pursue the interest and whether or not I will actually make a bid come the first week of August or whenever the court sets the date for bids."
What got him thinking were various moves by U.S. Bankruptcy Judge D. Michael Lynn that "clarified some of the Hicks-related issues," he said, referring to Tom Hicks, who heads Hicks Sports Group, the ballclub's parent company.
