March In Like A Lion In 2015... This Year, Not So Much

NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) - March is usually the month when really bad weather starts to roll into the metroplex, and last year was a monster.
The Spring of 2015 brought a record number of tornadoes along with record rainfall.
Chris Pilcic is a media representative for State Farm Insurance in Dallas. He says there were a record number of tornado touch-downs last year. "According to NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration), last year Texas had over 1,900 severe weather storms. That includes 228 recorded tornados, 783 hailstorms and 951 high-wind events."
Last year Texans made tens of thousands of weather-related insurance claims. "Texas ranked number one in damage claims for hail and wind. Just in hail, to home and autos, we had over 52,000 claims and that is about double of the number two state -- Illinois," he said.
Here in North Texas, it was the day after Christmas when hundreds of families lost everything after tornadoes cut a path through the metroplex. There were some 10 tornadoes that touched down over that weekend. Twelve people were killed in the storms. The event was the deadliest tornado outbreak in over 90 years.
Meanwhile, March weather this year has been mild, with warm and breezy days and no freezing temperatures or precipitation.
