DALLAS (CBS 11) — Troubled quarterback Johnny Manziel is facing allegations of more questionable behavior, and the timing is raising some eyebrows.
On Thursday Dallas police turned their domestic violence investigation over to the District Attorney and a grand jury. At the time some legal experts took that to mean detectives didn't have enough evidence to make an arrest. Manziel may have drawn the same conclusion and took it as cause for celebration.
TMZ is reporting that Manziel was seen at a Miami nightclub Thursday just hours after the announcement. TMZ posted video of what appears to be the quarterback drinking from a champagne bottle. He may have been trying hide his identity by wearing a big hat and sunglasses, but the video is pretty clear.
Dallas police declined to file an assault charge over an alleged incident at a hotel last month with his ex-girlfriend, instead letting a grand jury decide the fate of a misdemeanor assault-domestic violence case against the quarterback. Police would not comment on the details of the case.
Even though the recommended charge is a misdemeanor, it still comes with a possible sentence of up to a year in jail. That's why some say what may have been a Miami celebration is premature. Legal experts expect a grand jury decision in about a month.
