Mansfield Summit Girls Beat Barbers Hill 40-37

AUSTIN (AP) - Jazzmin Jackson had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds and gave Mansfield Summit the lead for good with 2:17 to play to lift Summit to a 40-37 win over Mont Belvieu Barbers Hill in the girls' Class 4A state semifinals Thursday night.

Ashley Eli made one of two free throws with 4 seconds left for a 3-point cushion for Summit (36-3) before Barbers Hill's Shannon Evans missed a desperation 3-pointer at the buzzer.

Kendall Shaw, who has signed to play at Vanderbilt in college, had 13 points and 13 rebounds for Barbers Hill (38-4). Her turnaround jumper gave Barbers Hill a 37-36 lead before Jackson converted a 3-point play. Summit trailed 26-19 in the third before ripping off a 15-0 run to set up a tense fourth quarter.

Barbers Hill missed its last four shots, including an attempt by Kimi Carter after a Summit turnover with 9 seconds left.

Summit was able to hold the ball for much of the last 90 seconds because Barbers Hill had to commit five fouls just to get Summit into the shooting bonus with a chance to get the ball back. When Barbers Hill finally forced a turnover, Carter forced up a shot over three defenders that bounced off the rim.

Jackson, who committed the turnover, grabbed the defensive rebound.

Eli, who was a freshman on the 2009 Summit team that won the state title, finished with 13 points.
