Man Who Twice Robbed Dairy Queen Sentenced To 70 Years In Prison
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) – A former employee who twice robbed the Dairy Queen where he once worked was sentenced to 70 years in jail last week.
Mario Hernandez Yovanovitch, 32, was convicted with six counts of aggravated robbery in State District Judge Wayne Salvant's court. He held up the Dairy Queen at 508 West Randol Mill Road on May 11, 2009 and again on May 23, 2009, court records show.
Prosecutors argued that Yovanovitch failed to show up to work on May 10 and then held up two employees the next morning while they prepared to open the store. He escaped with $4,000 that time.
On May 23 – two days shy of two weeks later – prosecutors said Yovanovitch and accomplice Sean Rafferty, 17, again held up the location, stealing $4,000 once more.
During this incident, Yovanovitch shot at one of the employees as they ran away. Sister Roxanne Yovanovitch drove the getaway vehicle each time, police say.
During the punishment phase of the trial, prosecutors said the siblings robbed the First Convenience Bank at 2210 South Fielder Road inside a Kroger in July 2009.
Jurors were told that Yovanovitch was out on bond when he committed all the crimes.
It took less than two hours for jurors to suggest 70 years as a punishment. Yovanovitch must serve at least 30 years before he's eligible for parole.
