MCKINNEY (CBSDFW) - An Oklahoma man was sentenced to 24 years in prison last week for Aggravated Robbery of an elderly person.
According to prosecutors 52-year old David Wayne Cahill of Oklahoma attacked a 79-year old man Plano on the evening of Sept. 1, 2011.
Testimony from the trial revealed that Cahill attacked the elderly man on his porch, pushed the man into his home and stole the elderly man's wallet as he pinned him down.
Two weeks later Cahill was caught after he was arrested for robbing an 85-year-old Oklahoma man, and the Plano victim's wallet was found in the trunk of Cahill's car.
Plano Det. Brian Pfhanning interviewed Cahill at an Oklahoma jail, where Cahill refused to admit robbing the Plano victim, instead claiming it was a "pick-pocket".
Cahill was returned to Texas to stand trial on the Aggravated Robbery charge. After a motion to dismiss on a procedural challenge of his return to Texas was denied, evidence of the crime was presented including the testimony of the victim. The jury disagreed with Cahill's early characterization that this was a "pick-pocket," finding him guilty of Aggravated Robbery
Cahill will not be eligible for parole for 12 years.
