Man Killed After Surviving Crash In Arlington
ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - An Arlington man was killed just before midnight on Thursday when he was struck on a highway by an SUV after surviving a car crash of his own.
Arlington Police determined that shortly before being hit by a Ford Expedition, Deandre Walker, 20, had been involved in a single-vehicle accident on the transition ramp from Highway 360 to I-20 in southeast Arlington.
Witnesses say that Walker was able to crawl out of the wreckage after he rolled his car several times.
As he wandered near the crash site, Walker was struck by the SUV and killed on impact. Police report that the SUV unsuccessfully attempted to avoid the man, who was standing in the outside lane of the highway.
The driver stopped and is cooperating with the investigation.
Other drivers saw it and called 911 to say Walker was walking around in traffic. It's unclear whether or not Walker was dazed from the accident.
Police had the ramp closed for hours while they investigated.
It is unknown at this point if drugs and or alcohol played a factor in either crash.
