GODLEY (CBSDFW.COM) - A man was killed and another man was detained after a shooting late Tuesday night in Johnson County. It happened at around 11:00 p.m. near the intersection of Colorado Street and Texas Street, just north of Godley.

The victim has been identified as 22-year-old Casey James Potts of Joshua.

According to the Johnson County Sheriff's Department, this all started after a fight in Tarrant County that moved into a Johnson County neighborhood. Potts and a woman were in a car with the suspected shooter traveling behind them in a pickup truck.

Deputies said that, for some reason, Potts got out and rushed toward the truck in the middle of the street. But the truck driver pulled out a gun and started firing shots. Potts was struck and pronounced dead. The suspected shooter stayed at the scene until authorities arrived.

The three individuals involved in this incident all knew each other, deputies said. Sheriff Bob Alford later said that this incident may have stemmed from a domestic violence call earlier in the evening.

Investigators are still talking to witnesses about what happened prior to the shooting incident. The suspected shooter is detained, but has not been placed under arrest. Charges may not be filed, authorities said, if the shooting is determined to have been an act of self-defense.
