GARLAND (CBSDFW.COM) - Police in Garland are investigating the fatal shooting of a 28-year-old man early Friday. The incident happened at around 12:30 a.m. near the intersection of Centerville Road and Broadway Boulevard. Authorities were called about a disturbance in the area, and arrived to find the man dead.
Officers observed a white Chrysler 300 that was stopped in the roadway, and the victim's body on the ground near the car. The man appeared to have received a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene and was later identified by officials as Ismael Mendez Jr. of Dallas.
Witnesses stated that two vehicles were involved in a crash -- one being the white Chrysler and the other being a black Dodge Challenger -- and gunshots were fired soon after. Both cars were said to be traveling eastbound along Centerville Road when the white car slammed into the black vehicle.

The condition of the driver was not released. The suspects drove away from the scene, reportedly with minor injuries from the collision.
