LEWISVILLE (CBSDFW.COM) - Police in Lewisville are searching for an armed robber Wednesday after the suspect shot and injured a young man inside of his car. The incident happened at around 11:15 p.m. Tuesday night at the Edgewood Village apartment complex, located in the 2100 block of Uecker Lane.

According to authorities, a group of four young people were inside of the car as it pulled up to the apartment complex. That is when they were approached by the armed robber who demanded money. When the suspect pulled out his gun, a passenger in the backseat tried to grab the weapon.

During that struggle, the gun went off, hitting the driver in the back. He was taken to Medical Center of Plano for surgery and is expected to be okay. The name of the 21-year-old victim has not been released.

Despite having help from a canine team, detectives were not able to find the armed robber. Authorities think that he may have somehow known the group of victims. The witnesses have changed their stories a few times.

Detectives in Lewisville do not believe that this case is connected to other recent armed robberies, but they are assisting police in Carrollton to crack similar cases in those two cities from earlier this week.

Two armed robbers are suspected of holding up people at four different apartment complexes late Monday and early Tuesday. In each of those four cases, all located along the Sam Rayburn Tollway, the two suspects got away with valuables in a white or light-colored small SUV.

"Always be aware of your surroundings," cautioned Capt. Kevin Deaver with the Lewisville Police Department. "If you see a vehicle following you in an apartment complex or something like that, you may want to drive past your apartment and see if that vehicle continues on -- and then circle back to your apartment. If you see someone in the area where you're going to get out, maybe wait to get out until they've left the scene."
