DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A man was shot and left to die just a few feet away from his home early Tuesday in the Oak Cliff area of Dallas, and police are now looking for the gunman.
Authorities received a call at around 12:30 a.m. from a frantic neighbor who had heard two gunshots. When officers got to the 3300 block of Munday Drive, they found the victim shot dead in a driveway across the street from his home. The man's car was also missing.
Police have not released a description of the suspect, but are searching for the victim's black Nissan Sentra.
This incident was being investigated as a carjacking at one point, but this may no longer be the case. Officials are trying to determine why the man was targeted.
The victim's name has not been released by officials, but his son was at the house on Tuesday morning, very upset and surrounded by consoling friends and family members.
The number of murders in Dallas keeps growing. This is the latest killing in a long list that police are investigating. Just in the month of June, there were 22 homicides across 22 days -- the highest number that the Dallas Police Department has seen since August 2013.
The head of the Dallas Police Association said that the department took 200 officers from the streets several years ago, and he fears that this is leading to an increase in crimes, including robberies and domestic violence cases.
