FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - A jury in Tarrant County on Wednesday handed a 10-year jail sentence to a 26-year-old man with a history of sexually violating women as they slept. Chase Robert Dilg was convicted of raping his best friend's mother. It took jurors about 15 minutes to reach a guilty verdict.

The crime took place in April 2008, as Dilg and several others were hanging out at the friend's home. Dilg excused himself from the group and then sneaked into the mother's bedroom and started to sexually assault the woman while she was sleeping. The woman woke up in horror. She contacted police about a month later, after learning that Dilg had committed similar acts to two other women.

Dilg was often at the victim's Haltom City home, and she considered him to be a part of the family. He would even call her "mom" sometimes. When she confronted Dilg the morning after the assault, she said, Dilg apologized and cried.

The other victims testified at Dilg's trial as well, also sharing stories of awaking to find Dilg sexually violating them while they slept. "This defendant had a pattern of preying upon sleeping women," said Assistant District Attorney Tim Rodgers. "He profoundly violated them when they were most vulnerable. We thank the jury for doing the right thing."

Dilg is required to remain behind bars for at least five years before he is eligible for parole. In addition to his prison sentence, Dilg will pay a $5,000 fine and will be required to register as a sex offender. He has three prior felony convictions for drug possession and evading arrest.
