Man Sentenced To Life For Role In Deadly Valero Murders
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - It took a Tarrant County jury just 45 minutes to convict a man on two counts of Capital Murder for his role in the deaths of two people at a Valero convenience store in southeastern Fort Worth.
Randy Seibel was sentenced to life in prison for participating in the robbery and shooting death of store clerk Daniel Rojas. Jerry Burnett, a 70-year-old deliveryman for Mrs. Baird's Bread, happened to be making a delivery during the holdup and was also shot. He died from his injuries 10 days later.
During the trial prosecutors contended that Seibel was one of three men involved in the robbery and murders in March 2010. They said Rojas, 22, was shot in the head 'execution style' even after doing everything the robbers' told him.
After the clerk and deliveryman was shot lawyers said one of the robbers poured gasoline on the floor and over one of the victim's but was interrupted by a customer before setting the fuel on fire. The assertion was backed up by video surveillance that captured the entire incident.
Prosecutors said Seibel and his two robbery/murder accomplices worked next door to the Valero store and believed the business had large amounts of money on hand for check cashing purposes.
Seibel was sentenced to life in prison with no possibility for parole. One of Seibel's accomplices was convicted of capital murder in January and sentenced to death. Another accomplice pled guilty to aggravated robbery and was given 20 years in exchange for testifying for the prosecution.
