Man Remains Missing At White Rock Lake

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Rescue crews in Dallas continued combing through White Rock Lake on Wednesday morning, looking for a man who disappeared after jumping into the water on Tuesday. Dallas Fire-Rescue spent five hours on the north side of the lake Tuesday night before calling off the search. Those crews were back in the water at daybreak.

The game warden and the Dallas Police Department's dive team are also on the scene. They are looking in an area on the northeast side of White Rock Lake, just east of the dog park on Mockingbird Lane.

The name of the missing man has not been released. Family members have been on the scene for hours, but are not yet ready to comment about the situation.

Witnesses stated that they saw a man jump from the pedestrian bridge into the water at about 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon. The man started swimming to shore, and two bystanders jumped into the water in attempt to help him. But, witnesses said, the man struggled to tread water and ultimately went under.

Police have closed off the pedestrian bridge on the northeast side of the lake -- which is typically used by many bicyclists, runners and walkers -- while the search is being conducted. There has been no word yet about how long crews will continue to look, or when the bridge will be opened.
