GARLAND (CBSDFW.COM) - Police in Garland have identified Benjamin Floyd, 29, of Wylie as the man found dead after he drove his vehicle into high water in Garland this morning.
According to authorities, the accident happened early this morning along Campbell Road and Brand Road by Firewheel Golf Park.
Officials said no barricades were up as the person drove into the water.
City crews began placing barricades in the Brand/Campbell vicinity, as well as Naaman School Road at Brand, at approximately 3 a.m. Garland firefighters responded to three water rescue situations during the early morning hours. A second motorist was rescued at Brand and Campbell while firefighters were responding to the original call to that location. A third motorist was rescued farther south on Naaman School Road at Brand.
High water also prompted road closures at Miles and Pleasant Valley roads and at Castle and Brook. Those areas remain closed.
With continued rain in the weekend forecast, motorists are reminded not to drive into high water or to bypass barricades. Flash flooding takes more lives each year than any other severe weather-related hazard. Only six inches of fast moving water holds enough force to knock over an adult, and only two feet of water will carry away most vehicles...even pickups and SUVs.
