Man Shot Dead Behind Richardson Ice Rink

RICHARDSON (CBSDFW.COM) - Police in Richardson are investigating a shooting death behind a popular ice skating rink. Officers arrived at the Ice Training Center, located in the 500 block of Centennial Boulevard, just after 10:00 p.m. Sunday night. They found a man behind the building who had been shot. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

The victim has been identified only as a black male in his late teens or early 20s.

Witnesses reported hearing several gunshots and seeing a group of people leave in an orange-colored sedan. Sgt. Kevin Perlich with the Richardson Police Department says the group has been detained for questioning. He also stated that the detained group knew the victim involved.

"We've been given a couple different versions of events and what took place," said Perlich. "Until we've been able to sort through all of that, we can't say for certain what the motive was."

Police do not believe that the shooting was random or that it was connected to the ice rink.

Authorities are waiting on the Dallas County Medical Examiner's report to release the victim's name and to determine how many times he was shot.

Investigators are looking into whether this may have involved a drug transaction, but are not certain at this point. Police are also trying to determine any suspects involved in the case.
