Man Faces Sentencing For Extorting RG3

WACO (AP) - A former Baylor basketball player faces up to three years in prison at sentencing for trying to extort $1 million from Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III.

Richard Hurd is to appear before U.S. District Judge Walter Smith in Waco on Wednesday to be sentenced for threatening to release damaging information about the 2011 Heisman Trophy winner.

Hurd pleaded guilty in September to threatening to injure the reputation of another person and receiving the proceeds of extortion.

Federal authorities arrested Hurd after he contacted the former Baylor star's agent and agreed to take $120,000 for the information, which has never been detailed.

Griffin was the second player selected in the 2012 NFL draft. He'll return to Texas when the Redskins face the Dallas Cowboys in Dallas' annual Thanksgiving game.
