Garland Police Chase Ends In Fatal Crash
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A man died early Wednesday morning after a police chase in Garland ended with a crash in Dallas.
The incident started around 12:30 a.m. when Garland officers were attempting to make a traffic stop on a motorcycle near the intersection of Miller Road and Jupiter Road. The bike took off and, just a short time later, plowed into a Cadillac at a high rate of speed at the intersection of Miller Road and Plano Road in northeast Dallas.
"Very horrific wreck," said Officer Joe Harn with the Garland Police Department. "The motorcycle almost disintegrated on impact."
The driver of the motorcycle was taken to Baylor Medical Center at Dallas, but later died. His name has not yet been released, but authorities believe that he was in his mid-20s. "We'll continue to investigate to find out who it was that was running, why he ran, and what's the reasoning behind this," Harn said.
The driver of the Cadillac was not hurt, but the impact of the crash spun his vehicle around.
"If an officer starts to try and make a traffic stop on you, simply stop and pull over," warned Harn. "The chances are it's going to end up in a ticket, if even that. This is a very prime example of what can happen when you try to flee from police. It went from one major intersection to another, and ended in a loss of life."
