Man Arrested In Walmart Theft, Officer Assault
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Fort Worth Police have arrested a man accused of stealing merchandise from a local Walmart and dragging an off-duty officer across the parking lot with his car.
Christopher Thomas Davila was arrested on the charge of Assault - Serious Bodily Injury to a Public Servant, according to the Fort Worth Police Department.
On Saturday Dec. 22 around 6:15 p.m., an off-duty officer from Godley was working at the Walmart at 7451 McCart when he was alerted of a theft. The officer followed the suspect to his car and attempted to apprehend him as he was getting in his vehicle.
The officer grabbed the suspect as he attempted to flee, placing his upper body partially inside the suspect's vehicle. The suspect began to drive away, dragging the officer along the pavement. After the driver ignored loud and clear commands to stop the vehicle, the officer feared for his life and shot his firearm multiple times.
The car subsequently collided with a curb, causing the officer to lose his grip and fall to the ground. The suspects immediately abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.
The officer was transported to a local hospital, where he was treated for a non life-threatening injury.
Fort Worth Robbery detectives conducted a thorough investigation which led to the arrest of Davila. Additional arrest warrants in the case are pending.
