Man Arrested, Accused Of Stealing DFR Bomb Tech Truck

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A Texas man is behind bars, accused of stealing a Dallas Fire Rescue truck.

A Dallas Fire Rescue bomb technician had taken the vehicle in for repairs. After making repairs, a mechanic at the fire maintenance facility if believed to have left the keys inside the vehicle.

When the bomb tech went to get the vehicle the next day it was missing.

The truck was found later, in the 3200 block of Merrifield, and a man, who was described as appearing to be high on drugs, was found sitting behind the wheel. That man, Benjamin Hubbard, was arrested.

Because of his condition police and members of DFR took the 37-year-old suspect to Baylor Hospital.

After further investigation it was discovered that two bomb suits, valued at $40,000 each, an x-ray machine also valued at $40,000, and other DFR equipment valued $5,000 was missing from the truck.

When Hubbard was asked about the missing equipment he agreed to show detectives where it could be found. The stolen equipment was returned back to DFR , after being located in a vacant field in the 3500 block of Mingo.

Hubbard is being charged with Theft - a second degree felony.
