Maligned Huskies Defense Gets Its Shot At RG3
SEATTLE (AP) - When the Heisman Trophy presentation was being broadcast, Washington linebacker Cort Dennison was quietly pulling for Baylor's Robert Griffin III to win the award.
Dennison has no connection to Griffin, other than wanting the chance to face the Heisman winner in the Alamo Bowl on Dec. 29 in San Antonio.
Seems like an odd wish considering how maligned the Huskies defense was this season. Washington gave up more than 425 yards per game and 33.3 points per game en route to a 7-5 record.
But facing Griffin and the 15th-ranked Bears in the Alamo Bowl gives Washington a chance at redemption under circumstances similar to what the Huskies faced a year ago, when they avenged an early-season rout by beating Nebraska 19-7 in the Holiday Bowl.
