Magnetic Confederate Flags Discovered In DPD Locker Room At Love Field

DALLAS (CBSDFW) - The discovery of magnetic confederate flags inside a Dallas Police Department men's locker room at Love Field is raising concerns.

The Black Police Association's Vice-President Willie Ford says the flag has a negative meaning. "This is 2015. This is a sensitive issue for most members of our association."

Sources tell us the flags started appearing over the weekend, but that supervisors didn't react until Monday morning.

Still, Ford says the incident is not an indictment against the entire department. "There are isolated issues within the department that we need to handle as isolated issues."

While Dallas Police conducts an internal investigation, its largest police union, the Dallas Police Association isn't commenting.

Willie Ford says if it's true that officers brought and displayed the magnetic flags to the locker room, they should be disciplined. "At the end of the day, all of us are officers. At the end of the day, we're all on the same team. At the end of the day, you're entitled to your opinion. But our concern is making sure that whatever your opinion is, does not infringe on someone's right in the workplace."

The President of the Dallas NAACP, Arthur Fleming, tells me he wants to find out more about the incident.

But he says if it's true that officers brought a confederate flag to work, they should be fired.

A spokeswoman says DPD isn't commenting on the matter until its internal investigation is completed.
