MacArthur, Duncanville Girls Basketball Teams Advance

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) – The top ranked Irving MacArthur Lady Cardinals and third-rated Duncanville Pantherettes advanced to this weekend's girls basketball regional tournament in Fort Worth, highlighting a busy Tuesday night of high school playoff hoops.

All-American Alexis Jones took charge in the 4th quarter as the defending Class 5A state champion Cardinals fought off pesky 6th-ranked Plano West 67-60.

Perennial power Duncanville (36-1) broke open a tight game in the second half, downing 7th-ranked Southlake Carroll 60-46.

MacArthur will meet Lubbock Coronado and Duncanville plays Amarillo in Friday's Class 5A Region I Girls Regional Tournament at Fort Worth's Wilkerson Greines Coliseum.

Meanwhile, the boys basketball state playoffs began on Tuesday with defending Class 5A state champion Flower Mound Marcus –– ranked No. 1 in Texas –– pulling away in the second half to beat Justin Northwest 51-39.
