Longhorns Trying To Become Bowl Eligible In Trip To West Virginia

TEXAS AT WEST VIRGINIA, SATURDAY AT 11:00 AM

Line: West Virginia by 3½

Series Record: West Virginia leads 4-2

WHAT'S AT STAKE

Texas needs a win in its final two games to become bowl eligible under first-year coach Tom Herman. The Mountaineers hold onto slim hopes of advancing to the Big 12 championship game but have to win their final two games and get losses by both TCU and Oklahoma State.

KEY MATCHUP

Texas' two-QB system against West Virginia's defense. The Longhorns have struggled on offense over stretches and Herman has to figure out whether pass-first Shane Buechele or Sam Ehlinger will be the right fit against the Mountaineers, who have put together solid back-to-back games. Buechele threw for 318 yards against West Virginia in a 24-20 loss a year ago.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Texas: S DeShon Elliott leads the Big 12 with six interceptions, including two returned for touchdowns. He's second on the team with 8.5 tackles for loss.

West Virginia: QB Will Grier is in the top three nationally with 3,440 passing yards and 34 touchdown passes, but has seven interceptions in his last three games, several that bounced off his receivers' hands.

FACTS & FIGURES

Texas is 0-4 against ranked opponents this season. The Mountaineers have won two straight despite being shut out offensively in the second half of both games. West Virginia's David Sills V leads the nation with 18 TD catches, seven more than anyone else. He's among a trio of Mountaineers receivers in the mix for 1,000-yard seasons. Texas CB Antwuan Davis had two interceptions and a fumble recovery last week against Kansas. He returned one of the interceptions for a touchdown in the 42-27 win. Texas P Michael Dickson leads the nation with a 48.6-yard average.
