Local Bookseller Celebrates 40 Years, Expanding In Tough Economy
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - In an age when brick and mortar book stores are disappearing, one particular chain in North Texas is doing better than ever.
Half Price Books is celebrating its 40th anniversary this weekend and KRLD's Emily Trube spoke with the woman who has worked there all four decades, CEO Sharon Anderson-Wright.

Half Price Books has gone nation-wide with 116 stores in 15 states but don't look for them to make the jump to mega chain. Anderson-Wright says there are no plans to go public. "We're in no hurry to conquer the world, we just want to have a nice place to work and provide something nice for people."
Executive Vice President Kathy Doyle-Thomas says they do have plans to move more into the digital medium by offering more video games, both vintage and current titles. They are also exploring the possibilities of offering used devices like MP3 players and e-book tablets. The heart of the store, though, will always be books on paper.
"There were a million books published last year," says Doyle-Thomas. "There's a wealth of books to be discovered. Other bookstores only carry certain authors and certain titles by those authors and send those back to the publishers when they don't sell quickly enough. We don't. We offer the world."
