FORT WORTH (AP) - A lock of President Abraham Lincoln's hair will be for sale starting at $10,000 this weekend in Dallas.
Greg Dow is selling his father's collection of Lincoln memorabilia at an auction Saturday.
Among the items available is a fragment of an 1862 letter written by Lincoln that's addressed to a Baltimore, Maryland, attorney. In the letter, Lincoln says the Civil War isn't going well for the Union, but vows to keep fighting. The opening bid for the letter is $10,000.
A handwritten military arrest warrant for Lincoln's assassin, John Wilkes Booth, also will be up for grabs.
Dow says his father, who died five years ago, was fascinated with presidential assassinations. He tells The Fort Worth Star-Telegram that it's time to let someone else enjoy owning the items.
